Welcome to AVLIC's 2008 conference which will be held July 29th - August 2nd in historic St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
The theme, "Connecting Minds and Communities", was chosen to encourage conference participants to avail of an excellent
opportunity to network with other interpreters and make contact with Deaf people and professionals who are aligned with the
Deaf world. We are confident that the workshops and breakout sessions will benefit you professionally as well as personally.
While visiting, take advantage of our hotel location at the bottom of beautiful Signal Hill. There is a trail around the hill
and another a short distance up the road at Quidi Vidi Lake. Other attractions in the area include Commissariat House, St Thomas'
Anglican Church, the Geo Center , Haunted Walk, Tea at the Crypt, boat tours and the oldest sporting event in North America,
The Royal St.John's Regatta on August 1st.
Socializing is an important aspect of conferences. We are certain that you will be thrilled with the night life and sight-seeing
adventures that are available. The timing of our conference coincides with the famous George Street Festival in downtown St.
John's where you will enjoy great local music and entertainment nightly.
Please explore our website and contact us with any questions or comments you may have. There is information about the Conference
as well as links to tourist sights for those of you who are planning to stay beyond the Conference dates. We look forward to
seeing you all here. Our goal is to make this a wonderful and memorable experience for all of you and "long may your big jib
draw".
